ABOUT THE FILM

An icon
in fragments.

The Three Disappearances of Soad Hosni is a feature film by Rania Stephan centred on the Egyptian film star. Composed of VHS footage from Hosni's films, it tells the story of the mysterious circumstances surrounding her death: she was found dead on the sidewalk outside her London apartment in 2001.

Stephan focuses on the representation of women, sexual politics and gender relations, while opening a compelling view onto Egyptian film history. The film won several awards, including Best Arab Documentary at the 2011 Doha Tribeca Film Festival, and was nominated for Best Documentary at the Chicago International Film Festival and the Palm Springs International Film Festival in 2012.

The film will be screened alongside a recorded contribution by director Rania Stephan and further short excerpts from Soad Hosni's outstanding performances.
